Tanzhe Temple was first built in the fourth year of Jianxing during the reign of Emperor Min of the Western Jin Dynasty (316 AD). It is the earliest temple built after Buddhism was introduced to the Beijing area. Located at the foot of Tanzhe Mountain in the southeastern part of Mentougou District in western Beijing, it’s more than 30 kilometers from the city center. Tanzhe Temple is absolutely beautiful in autumn.

Search for “Tanzhe Temple” on your navigation, which will show “Beijing-Mentougou District-Tanzhe Temple Town”. Driving a Leapmotor C11 from Yizhuang Economic Development Zone, you can get there in about 40 minutes. You can park your car in Parking Lot No. 1.

[Travel Tips]

My personal recommendations are:

1. It’s extremely crowded on weekends. Tourists who believe in Buddhism and come to worship, as well as couples, will all come to pray for blessings. So if possible, come on a weekday. If you can’t make it on a weekday, then you must come on the weekend to experience Beijing’s autumn~

2. Tanzhe Temple is beautiful in all four seasons, where you can see autumn leaves, blooming lilacs, peach blossoms, and green cypresses, making you feel as if you’re in a fairyland. Currently, it’s late autumn, and the ginkgo and maple leaves are golden yellow, as if you’re in an ocean of harvest.

3. There are many kittens at Tanzhe Temple, and I can always encounter them every time I go. Friends who like small animals can bring some cat snacks.

I personally love taking photos at the “Thousand-Year-Old Ginkgo”. On the east side of Tanzhe Temple is the Emperor Tree, and on the west side is the Companion King Tree. Under the sunset, these two large trees cast their mottled years of history upon everyone, telling every story of the long river of history.
