Malaysia Travel Guide: The Ultimate Guide to Traveling in Malaysia

How to Choose the Most Suitable Destination

① Kuala Lumpur – Many direct flights, bustling city views, first choice for shopping enthusiasts

② Semporna – A paradise for diving in crystal-clear waters, but relatively limited options for dining and entertainment

③Kota Kinabalu– More diverse than Semporna, perfect for family trips

④Langkawi– 99 limestone islands with stunning natural scenery

⑤Malacca– Colorful buildings + multiculturalism, a favorite among artsy folks

⑥Penang– Pearl of the Orient, rich in Southeast Asian Chinese charm

How to Choose Network Communication Without Pitfalls

Strongly recommend buying at the airport after landing, don’t book on Taobao!

Recommended order: Celcom > Maxis > Hotlink > DiGi

Best value for money: Hotlink 39 Malaysian Ringgit for 5 days unlimited data

Features of each operator:

Celcom: Widest coverage, a must-have for island trips ️

Hotlink: Best value for money, slightly worse signal due to many users

DiGi: Many users but few base stations, average internet speed

⚡ Pitfall Guide (Lessons Learned the Hard Way)

Entry Section

Remember to get your passport stamped! You need to get a new stamp when traveling from East Malaysia to West Malaysia, don’t get stopped by customs

Fill out your immigration card in advance, you cannot enter normally without filling it out!

Prepare 1000 Malaysian Ringgit in cash, hotels only accept cash for deposits

Transportation Section

Only use Grab for ride-hailing, you can track the route in real-time

For ride-hailing at the airport, you must go to Gate 5, you can’t get cars from other places

Don’t exchange currency in China, the exchange rate is terrible

Daily Life

Must bring a power bank, it’s hard to borrow one

Bring a UK standard power adapter, they are expensive and of poor quality if bought locally

Alipay is very convenient, can be used in most places

Bring your own mouthpiece for diving, the public ones are really yellow…

Friendly Reminders

Currently only Kuala Lumpur has self-service immigration channels, other cities still require queuing for manual inspection. Hotels do not allow durian, mangosteen, and pets, you will be fined if found!

Malaysia is truly a treasure of a country, with everything from islands, cities to delicious food. I hope my experience can help those of you who are preparing to go!
